About Us

The Singapore Buddhist Mission (SBM) is established in 1981by the late Venerable Dr. K. Sri Dhammananda Maha Nayaka Thera and Mr. Tan Beng Lew, the Mission's Patron and Founding President.

In the 1980s, there was a lack of Buddhist institutions that teach and propagate the Dhamma in the English medium. SBM was thus one of the pioneers in publishing books and organising Dhamma classes and public talks in English. Such activities have help create a good awareness of Buddhism amongst Singaporeans.

In 1997, the Mission formally established its youth group, SBM Youth, with the focus of training and guiding young Buddhists in good discipline, Buddhist thought, values and selfless service, in hope that these young Buddhists can be of great service to the community of Singapore in future.
